Weather intervenes but 1st XI game today is ON

The rain returned with a vengance this week affecting both league games last Saturday and already accounting for this afternoon's 2nd XI game at Dymock.

The 1st XI fixture at home to Frampton is still ON as of 11am on Saturday morning.

Last Week

The 1st XI travelled to bottom of the table Rockhampton and before the weather intervened bowled their hosts out for 146 - Newbs taking 4/9 off his 9 overs, Craig 3/16 off 9 and Greener 1/16 off 9. However, heavy rain meant that even a shortened DLS calculated run chase wasn't possible and we had to settle for 11 points. Doubly frustrating having lost the home fixture against them to the weather as well meaning just 17 points have been taken against the side propping up the table.

The 2nd XI hosted top of the table Highnam with a much changed side and three of our under-15's in the line up. Captain Ollie also having the nightmare scenario of realising he only had 10 with minutes to go until the start (congratulations to Joe H on his new arrivals)! The under manned bowling attack performed excellently in the circumstances to restrict the table toppers to 219 in their 40 overs - a number which could have been much lower with some sharper catching. In reply we were progressing well at 71/2 off 15 before lightning and then heavy rain left the ground unplayable and no result could be achieved (20 overs in the 2nd innings being required for a positive result).

The one game we did complete this week was our final Under 11's fixture of the season when our Magnificent Seven completed their 3rd win out of 6 games with their best performance yet. The progress they have all made in all areas of the game has been wonderful to observe and is a tribute both to them and to the coaching team of Craig and Sam for their hard work on Friday nights.

The Under 15's game against Huntley was cancelled as the hosts couldn't raise a team and our midweek team had the week off as their scheduled opponents have withdrawn from the league.

The week ahead

The 1st XI host Frampton on Severn this afternoon really needing to get a game in (and win) to keep in the promotion hunt before a run of fixtures against direct promotion rivals.

The Under 15's have their final league game of the season on Monday at home to Cinderford and the midweek team have a must win promotion clash with Cheltenham Civil Service on Wednesday.

We hope that this rain disappears and summer returns!
